The Essence of Sunday... It's morning. I'm savouring the last of my snooze while sloppily rubbing the kitty's belly with my toes (yes, he sleeps on the bed). I stumble down the stairs and take in the beauty of the ever-changing view across the way. It feels good to be in my cozy home filled with things that I love. I brew a quick cup of joe, then head toward the lake for a crisp row under a clear-lit sky. It's a beautiful day, so afterwords, I head out for a drive up Chuckanut; the top is down and the seat warmers are toasty. The days are shorter now, so I arrive home at twilight and start the season’s first fire in anticipation of what's ahead; dinner with good friends. People arrive, wine is poured, stories are shared, and plans are made. We love our jobs, but after dinner, no one budges, no one wants to be the first to suggest an end to the perfect day. So we stay up a little too late, drink an extra glass of wine, and linger. People like to do that at my place. They tell me I make them feel comfortable, welcome and loved. Needless to say, Monday's alarm rings a bit too early, but I have no regrets.
